How to use the iPhone app

These instructions are for the installed iPhone app. If you are reading this page in a browser, return to the Kurashi OS app to follow the steps.

Find your way around
  1. Use the Home, Money, Schedule, AI, and Lists tabs at the bottom. Open Weather and Memories from the icons on Home.
  2. Tap the settings icon at the top right to open Settings & help. This is where you can change language and region, set up notifications, and back up your data.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the app screen for How to use, FAQ, What’s new, About your data, and Sources. Open About your data to read the privacy information.
Change language, currency, and region
  1. Tap the settings icon at the top right and expand Language & region (言語・地域 in Japanese).
  2. Select English or another language from the language dropdown. The language changes as soon as you select it.
  3. If you change the country, currency, time zone, or temperature unit, tap Apply.

Records are kept separately for each currency. Changing the currency does not convert saved amounts.

Set a budget and record expenses
  1. Open Money, choose Set budget, enter your budget for the month, and save.
  2. Choose Record expense, check the amount, description, date, and category, then save. If you scan a receipt, check the extracted information before saving.
  3. Check Home or Money for your daily allowance estimate through the end of the month. It changes as you update expenses and planned payments.

This estimate is calculated from your saved budget and records. It is not your bank account balance.

Add plans and prepare to leave
  1. Open Schedule, add a plan, enter its title, date, and time, then save.
  2. For a trip, choose Add a destination in the plan editor, select your destination, and set travel and preparation times.
  3. To receive preparation and departure reminders, enable the iPhone reminder option for that plan and save it. Also complete the notification settings described below.

You can enter travel time manually. Saved travel times are estimates and do not automatically update with traffic conditions.

Ask about your records
  1. Open AI and select a Common question, such as this month’s expenses or tomorrow’s plans.
  2. Read the answer and check the original records in Money or Schedule when needed.

Common questions work without Apple Intelligence. On-device interpretation of free-form text depends on your iPhone, OS, supported language, and Apple Intelligence settings.

View weather and its data sources
  1. Open Weather from Home. Search for a place or use your current location.
  2. View the forecast. An internet connection is required to fetch current weather information.
  3. On a screen showing an actual forecast, scroll below the seven-day forecast and its retrieval time to find the Apple Weather mark and Weather data sources link. Tap the link to open the provider’s attribution page.
Set up notifications
  1. In Settings & help, open Reminders, tomorrow’s outlook & Siri and allow notifications on your iPhone.
  2. Enable the reminders you need. The event-time reminder setting applies to incomplete plans that have a date and time.
  3. Preparation and departure reminders need both the setting here and the iPhone reminder option enabled and saved in each relevant plan.
  4. Choose Test notification in 10 seconds to check delivery. If it does not arrive, also check this app’s notification permission and Focus settings on your iPhone.

iPhone: preparation, memories and backups

These features require a supporting version of the iPhone app. Availability depends on the version installed and rollout through the App Store or TestFlight. These are separate from the web version’s features.

  1. A budget and checklist for each plan

Open a dated plan or task created in the app and expand “Budget & packing”. Enter the budget, enter each item and press “Add”, then save the plan. You can also add related expenses or shopping items from this section.

  2. A photo and a few words to remember

Open Memories on Home and choose “Add a memory”. Enter a title and date, optionally add a photo, notes and a place, then save. You can also choose “Save & add a memory” while editing a plan.

  3. Keep photos and settings together

Open Settings → Data & backup → Full Kurashi OS backup, then choose “Save full backup”. Select iCloud Drive or another location in Files. On the destination device, choose “Import from backup”, review it and import.

Records stay on your device. Memories are not automatically published to other users. Saving a backup to iCloud Drive is a manual choice of destination, not automatic synchronization.

The following information covers the web version

More everyday records, now on the Web

  • Expense templates: save an amount and category in Money, then review them before recording your next expense.
  • Prepare for plans: add a budget and checklist to a dated plan or task. Link expenses, shopping and memories. Reserved budgets reduce the daily allowance without counting linked expenses twice.
  • Memories: keep a date, note, place and optional photo from the Memories icon on Home.
  • Search records: use the search icon at the top to find spending, plans and lists by keyword.
  • CSV export: download spending or plans for a spreadsheet from Settings & help.

Memory photos and notes stay in this browser and are not sent to a server. Photos are resized and re-encoded locally; the original photo file is unchanged. Searches also run in the browser.

The money and plans JSON backup includes expense templates and preparations. Export and import memory photos and notes separately in Memories (up to 9 MB per file). Export them before clearing browser data, which also deletes saved memories. There is no automatic sync between devices. CSV files cannot restore your data.

Apple on-device AI, receipt text recognition, widgets, Siri and the iPhone full backup remain features of compatible app versions.

Set your first budget

  1. Enter your total budget for the whole month

This is the total amount to spend from the start to the end of the month. As you enter it, you can see the daily average after recorded expenses and unpaid payments are deducted.

    Set your budget
  2. Save and check on Home

The amount on Home is a daily average through the end of the month. When you record money you have spent, it is recalculated using the number of days remaining.

  3. Set up easy access for next time and back up your records

Add this app to your device's home screen to make it easier to check next time. After adding it, check that your records are visible, and keep a separate backup too.

    Import & back up data

You can use just plans or weather. Start with the features you need.

Record a planned payment once it is paid

Unpaid planned payments already reduce your daily average. When you pay one, convert that planned payment into an expense.

  1. Find the planned payment under Money

Choose Paid on the existing planned payment. Adding a separate expense for the same payment would subtract both the plan and the expense.

  2. Check the actual amount and date, then save

If a JPY 3,000 plan is paid for JPY 3,000, your available balance stays the same when recorded on the same day within the same month. If it costs JPY 3,200, the balance falls by only the JPY 200 difference.

  3. Check your planned payments and expenses

Check that the saved item is now an expense and that the same plan is no longer unpaid. Overdue payments from earlier months are included too, so update them when paid.

Currency & time zone

Weather uses Fahrenheit (°F) by default for the United States and Celsius (°C) for the other supported countries. Change the temperature unit in Settings or on the weather screen.

In Settings, choose a country to set its currency and a starting time zone. Japan, the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, Singapore and South Africa are supported. You can change the time zone and currency individually. English initially uses US dollars and New York time. Each currency has separate records; switching does not convert your money.

Saved timed events keep the same actual time when you switch zones. All-day dates remain unchanged. US daylight saving time adjusts automatically. Reminders already added to an external calendar are not changed by these settings.

Add to Home Screen

Open this page in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android to add it to your Home Screen.

iPhone / iPad

  1. Tap Share in your browser. In Safari, you may need to tap “…” first, then Share.
  2. Choose Add to Home Screen
  3. If “Open as Web App” appears, turn it on, then tap Add.

Android

  1. Open this page in Chrome
  2. Tap the three-dot menu at the top right
  3. Choose “Add to home screen” or “Install and create shortcut”, then confirm to add it.

Add the app home URL to your home screen. Open it using the button below before following these steps.

How to add to your Home Screen

Keeping your existing records

On iPhone and some other devices, the Home Screen app may not show records from your browser. If you have records, export a backup before adding the app.

  1. In your original browser, open the same URL you used before and check your records. Choose Settings & help → Import & back up data → Export.
  2. In the Home Screen app, open the same settings. Choose Review and import a backup, select the exported file, review it, then press Add this data.

When storage is separate, importing does not turn on automatic syncing. Use the Home Screen app for future entries to keep your records together.

Backups do not include wallpaper, Home Screen appearance settings or regional settings. Set these again as needed.

Keep the data in your original browser until you have checked that the transfer succeeded.

Make Home your own

Use the icons on Home to open Money, Schedule, Shopping, Notifications, and more. In Settings, choose which apps to show and switch to your own photo, a dog or cat wallpaper, or transparent icons. Wallpaper and Home display settings are saved only in this browser and are not included in backups.

Start with three overviews

Money: check your estimate through the end of the month

Spending and unpaid scheduled payments are subtracted from your monthly budget, then divided by the number of days left in the month, including today. Unpaid amounts from previous months are also subtracted. After making a scheduled payment, choose “Paid,” review the details, and save.

Schedule: add plans as they come to mind

Enter something like “tomorrow 18:30 dentist” in the field at the top. “To-dos” are items you can mark as complete; “Events” are plans with a set date and time. You can also open undated tasks and past events from the list. All times are in your selected time zone.

Weather: choose your area

Search for a city, ward, town, or village from the weather card, or choose your current location. View the seven-day forecast and hourly chance of rain. If a forecast cannot be retrieved, the previous forecast is clearly labeled. Rain radar is also available.

Shopping and progress

Check off items as you buy them, then use “Buy again” to return them to your list next time. In “Add in bulk & weekly,” set up regular shopping lists and days for routines such as trash collection. Earn up to three stamps a day by checking your overview, completing an item, and recording today's spending. Taking a break never reduces your stamps.

For existing users

If you use the same URL and browser, your existing money records, events, weather area, color, and morning notification time remain available. Open Advanced mode (Japanese) in Settings to keep using yen expense search, frequent expenses, payment apps, AI advice, and more. Classic mode supports yen records; use the new interface for other currencies.

To move from another device or the beta version, export a backup from your original board and import it from Settings. Importing into the new interface does not add duplicate records with the same ID, and keeps settings that are already in place.

Notifications and calendars

The Notifications app brings together today's overview and event reminders. In “Calendar notifications,” set your morning time and how many minutes before an event to be reminded. Download an event file with reminders, then open it in your device's calendar to add it. Morning events you have already added can still be used. To change their time or stop their reminders, make those changes in your device's calendar as well.

Import external events from an exported .ics file within your browser. There is no automatic sync. After making changes, import the file again using the same calendar name.

Keep a copy of your records

Records are saved in the browser you are using. Before changing devices or clearing your browser data, export a backup from Settings. Lists, progress, and imported calendars are included. If you see a save error, keep the entry screen open, check your available storage, and try again.
